Three transcriptions by Mozart himself for chamber settings featuring string quartet and string bass.
W.A. Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 11 in F Major, K. 413
W.A. Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 12 in A Major, K. 414
W.A. Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 13 in C Major, K. 415
guest pianist – Alon Goldstein; guest string bass – Patricia Weitzel
After four transcriptions, Mozart ended the practice.
Ignaz Lachner took on the challenge in the late 19th Century, writing transcriptions for most of the rest of the Mozart Piano Concertos.
The Fine ArtsQuartet has reintroduced these rediscovered works over the last two decades. The Sunday concert is part of an ongoing partnership with pianist Alon Goldstein to perform and record these little-known transcriptions.
